Madagascar is a year-round destination, but the climate varies a lot from region to region and season to season. Knowing these differences before you leave makes the difference between a comfortable trip and one full of surprises.
The Dry Season (April – October)
This is the most recommended period for most circuits, especially those following the Route Nationale 7 and the Great West. Tracks are in better condition, skies are generally clear, and temperatures are cooler, especially in the central highlands between July and August (nights in Antsirabe or Isalo can get quite cold). It's also the best time for spotting lemurs and wildlife, more active and visible when the vegetation is less dense.
The Rainy Season (November – March)
The landscape turns incredibly green and lush, and between September and December many baby lemurs are born — a magical time for nature lovers. On the other hand, some tracks in the west (towards Morondava and the Tsingy) become harder to travel, and the east coast (Andasibe, Nosy Be, Sainte-Marie) is exposed to cyclone risk, especially between January and March.
Our Advice
May-June and September-October often offer the best compromise: stable weather, pleasant temperatures and fewer tourists than the July-August peak. Our 21-day circuit discovering the West is designed exactly for this climate window.
