About 1,000 km separate Antananarivo from Tuléar along the Route Nationale 7 — arguably Madagascar's most famous road, and the backbone of most of our circuits. Here's what to expect stage by stage.
Antananarivo → Antsirabe
The first leg towards the central highlands: rice paddies as far as the eye can see, red-brick villages, and Antsirabe, a colonial-era spa town famous for its "pousse-pousse" (human-pulled rickshaws).
Ranomafana
Ranomafana National Park is one of the island's most biodiverse rainforests: home to several lemur species, including the rare golden bamboo lemur, plus endemic chameleons and frogs.
Isalo
A sandstone massif carved by erosion into canyons, natural pools and dramatic formations. Sunrise or sunset hikes, when the light sets the rock ablaze in red and gold, are among the most photographed moments of the trip.
Tuléar and Beyond
The end of the RN7 opens onto the spiny forest, the beaches of Anakao and the southern baobabs, in a distinctly more coastal, Sakalava atmosphere.
Combining it with the Great West
Many travelers choose to detour towards Morondava for the iconic Avenue des Baobabs and the Tsingy de Bemaraha, a UNESCO World Heritage site. That's exactly the route of our 21-day circuit, which links the RN7 to the Great West in one complete itinerary.
