What to Pack for a Madagascar Circuit: The Complete Checklist

A circuit in Madagascar means national parks, dirt tracks and simple but authentic accommodation. Here's the checklist we recommend to our travelers before departure.

Clothing

Layering is best: light tops for the day, a fleece or jacket for cool evenings in the highlands, and a lightweight rain jacket, useful in any season. Sturdy hiking shoes are essential for Isalo and the Tsingy, along with swimwear and a sun hat.

Health and Safety

Effective mosquito repellent, high-protection sunscreen, a small personal first-aid kit and a water bottle (bottled water is widely available, but a reusable bottle cuts down on plastic waste). We recommend consulting your doctor about malaria prophylaxis and recommended vaccinations before you leave.

Electronics and Photography

Electricity isn't always available in rural areas: a good-capacity power bank is invaluable. A headlamp is essential for night walks to spot lemurs (many species are nocturnal), while photography enthusiasts will appreciate a lens with good zoom for wildlife.

Documents

A passport valid at least 6 months beyond your return date, travel insurance, and up-to-date visa information (most nationalities can get a visa on arrival, but always check the rules in force at the time of travel).
